The primary and secondary outcomes were measured repeatedly in a sample of 107 adults, whose ages ranged from 21 to 50 years. Internal sensations, such as fatigue, frequently precede or accompany the reported feeling of hunger, which can also be triggered by anticipation of a delectable meal. Although the former was thought to signify a lack of energy, the latter is a product of associative learning. Nevertheless, models of hunger that posit a deficit of energy are not strongly supported; therefore, if interoceptive hunger sensations are not simply indicators of fuel levels, then what precisely do they signify? Our examination of an alternative perspective reveals that varied internal hunger signals are acquired during the formative years of childhood. The anticipated outcome of this notion is a shared trait between offspring and caregivers, evident when caregivers instruct their child on interpreting internal hunger sensations. To explore the relationship between hunger and other variables, 111 university student offspring-primary caregiver pairs completed a survey focused on internal hunger sensations, alongside measures of gender, body mass index, eating attitudes, and beliefs about hunger. Significant similarity was observed within offspring-caregiver dyads (Cohen's d values fluctuating from 0.33 to 1.55), with beliefs in an energy-needs model of hunger serving as a key moderator, a factor typically increasing the degree of similarity. The degree to which mothers' physiological states, encompassing skin conductance level [SCL] augmentation and respiratory sinus arrhythmia [RSA] withdrawal, jointly predicted subsequent maternal sensitivity was the focus of this study. The 176 mothers (N=176) participating in the prenatal study had their SCL and RSA measured during a resting baseline and while viewing video footage of crying infants. Maternal behaviors, more sensitive in nature, were primarily predicted by higher SCL augmentation, as shown by the results, but not by RSA withdrawal. Neurodevelopmental disorder autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is connected to a complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors, such as prenatal stress. In light of this, we sought to determine if there was a connection between a mother's stress during pregnancy and the severity of autism spectrum disorder in her children. Forty-five-nine mothers of children with autism, between two and fourteen years of age, who were undergoing rehabilitation and educational programs in Makkah and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, were the participants in this study. A validated questionnaire was applied to ascertain environmental factors, consanguinity, and the presence of an autism spectrum disorder family history. The Prenatal Life Events Scale questionnaire was utilized for evaluating the stress experienced by mothers during their pregnancies. This systematic review thus seeks to integrate all accessible data regarding the correlations between parental occupational therapy concentration levels and parenting practices and bonding in the previous twenty years. Following a systematic search across five databases from 2002 to May 2022, a total of 33 studies were selected for final inclusion. Because the data displayed significant heterogeneity, the findings were presented in a narrative format, differentiated by the specific type of occupational therapy and related parenting outcomes. Parental occupational therapy (OT) levels are demonstrably and positively linked to parental touch, gaze, and the synchronization of affect, which in turn, impacts the observer-coded assessment of parent-infant bonding. Fathers and mothers demonstrated similar occupational therapy performance levels; however, occupational therapy facilitated affectionate parenting in mothers and stimulatory parenting in fathers. A positive association was observed between the occupational therapy skill levels of parents and their children. Encouraging more positive interactions, including physical touch and playful activities, between parents and children can be facilitated by healthcare providers and families to improve parent-child relationships.
Multigenerational inheritance, a non-genomic mechanism of heritability, manifests as altered phenotypes in the first generation of offspring from exposed parents. Heritable nicotine addiction vulnerability's inconsistencies and gaps might be explained by multigenerational influences. Prior research in our lab indicated that F1 offspring of male C57BL/6J mice subjected to chronic nicotine exposure displayed modifications in hippocampal function, encompassing learning, memory, nicotine-seeking behavior, nicotine metabolism, and basal stress hormones. To investigate the germline mechanisms behind these multigenerational phenotypic expressions, we sequenced small RNAs extracted from the sperm of males exposed to chronic nicotine using our pre-established model. Our research revealed a dysregulation of 16 sperm miRNAs in response to nicotine exposure. Previous work on these transcripts, as comprehensively reviewed, indicated that stress management and learning processes could be elevated. Exploratory enrichment analysis of mRNAs, potentially regulated by the differential expression of sperm small RNAs, indicated potential modulation of pathways linked to learning, estrogen signaling, and hepatic disease, among others. The findings from this multigenerational inheritance model highlight a potential connection between nicotine-exposed F0 sperm miRNA and variations in F1 offspring phenotypes, specifically impacting memory function, stress responses, and nicotine metabolism. These findings provide a valuable platform for subsequent functional validation of these hypotheses and the exploration of the mechanisms governing male-line multigenerational inheritance.
